Privacy Policy

Overview
Breaking News is a private, single-operator application that creates customer news digests from Google Alert emails. This policy explains what information the application accesses, how it is used, where it is sent, and how it can be deleted.
Information accessed
Breaking News accesses:
- Recent Google Alert emails, including their sender, subject, message identifier, body, and article links.
- Public article URLs, headlines, snippets, and article text retrieved from those links.
- Customer names, aliases, descriptions, and relevance rules configured by the operator.
Gmail access is read-only. The application cannot send, modify, or delete email.
How information is used
The information is used only to identify relevant business news, consolidate duplicate stories, produce source-cited summaries, prevent duplicate processing, and deliver the resulting digest.
Service providers and disclosures
- Google Gmail API provides read-only access to recent Google Alert emails.
- OpenAI processes configured customer profiles, article text, alert context, and extracted facts to classify and summarize relevant news.
- Cisco Webex receives the final source-cited digest for delivery to the configured private space.
Information is not sold, rented, used for advertising, or disclosed to other parties except as required to operate these services or comply with law.
Storage and retention
OAuth credentials are stored on an operator-controlled server. Breaking News stores processed article URLs, Gmail message identifiers, and processing timestamps in a local database to prevent duplicate digests. It does not intentionally persist complete email bodies or article text after a run. Final digests remain in Webex according to the operator's Webex retention settings. Service providers may retain data under their own terms and configured data controls.
Locally stored processing metadata is retained while needed to prevent duplicates and can be deleted by the operator on request.
Security
The application uses encrypted HTTPS connections, stores credentials separately from source code, limits Gmail access to the read-only scope, and restricts local credential and state-file permissions. No method of storage or transmission is guaranteed to be completely secure.
Your choices
The connected Google account can revoke access at any time from its Google Account connections page. To request access to or deletion of application-controlled data, contact privacy@sankey.io.
Google API Services User Data Policy
Breaking News's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy , including the Limited Use requirements.
